Geneva (Switzerland) .- booth Mazda at the Geneva Motor Show this year is greener than ever. One of the lines that Mazda has been explored for this has been the development of an idle cutting technology, which shuts off the engine when the car is stationary in traffic jams and similar situations, obtaining thus reducing fuel consumption.
The new boot system designed by Mazda works differently to those used by other brands such as Mercedes with the Class A, Peugeot 308 Stop & Start or the Toyota Auris. While traditionally, the system first used in the Citroën C3, used the starter to start the engine after a stop at a traffic light for example, Mazda injects gasoline directly on the piston head, thanks to the temperature residual engine turns on and active again. This system is faster, 0.35 seconds, and quieter than the conventional method.
But developments aimed at reducing the consumption of green Mazda model are not confined in the i-stop. Thanks to cutting idle, the new DISI engine and changing the aerodynamics, consumption has fallen about 14%, placing it at 6.8 l/100 km. Exceeds Euro5 legislation.
The engine used is the DISI (direct injection spark ignition). It has two-liter with dual overhead camshafts. Provides a power of 151 hp at 6,200 rpm and maximum torque of 191 Nm at 4,500 rpm.
The equipment of the Mazda 3 i-stop is similar to any Mazda 3.
